Are you working in a values-aligned culture?
Some of the biggest conflicts between employee and employer reflect values-misalignment.
Seeking Depth to Recovery values individuals who are committed to their continued growth as a clinician - someone who wants to deepen their skillset and identity as a therapist. We are not a workplace for superficiality or laurel resting.
Similarly, we expect this on a personal level as well. There must be a level of congruence between what a therapist expects of their clients, and what that same therapist expects of themselves. You would not believe how many times I’ve heard therapists say that they wouldn’t go to therapy! Emotional availability is the foundation of trauma healing, and we will not compromise our services to accommodate a therapist who is unwilling to show up for themselves.

We also highly value a team culture. This feels tricky to talk about because I’ve witnessed plenty of companies that have used “team” as a way to emotionally manipulate employees. Here’s how I mean it: we value relationships and the impact we have on those relationships with our choices in the workplace. I won’t go as far as to say that we’re family, because our family is our family, but we have to respect that we go further individually when we’re successful as a team.
Cultivating team is my social justice initiative against the sexist and ableist culture of the 40-hour work week. Having been both a working parent and primary caregiver, I have experienced the sexism of the 40-hour work week that is not made to elevate women. I know many other moms who’ve also experienced the impossible tug-o-war between family or work - internalizing the lie that it’s possible to show up to both equally in the confines of our current capitalist system.
I believe women and other gender minorities go further when we can band together. I genuinely believe that we have more abundance within community, where resources are shared and not hoarded. Team is at the heart of what makes our practice successful. Being in team allows us to provide salaries - when one person’s caseload is low, another person’s is high and vice versa, so no one has to worry about riding the ebbs and flows that happens in business. The more revenue the team brings in, the more benefits can be afforded, like better health insurance, more time off, and ability to afford high quality trainings.
The best fit providers for our company enjoy being part of something greater than themselves, are able to hold multiple perspectives, have transcended egocentrism, and are capable of vision.
