Seeking Depth Institute
for Trauma Therapy

Advanced trauma training for therapists in Richmond, Virginia.

The Seeking Depth Institute for Trauma Therapy is a professional training center dedicated to advancing trauma therapy through experiential, embodied, and relational approaches. Our courses are built on Self-Triangulation Theory, our proprietary clinical framework that shows how early attachment experiences shape internal roles—Stress Roles, which can fragment the self, and Resilience Roles, which support integration. By understanding these dynamics, therapists learn to recognize projections and relational patterns that arise in the therapy room, especially when working with attachment trauma.

Our trainings are more than a collection of techniques. While they draw on advanced practices inspired by somatic awareness, action-based interventions, and trauma reprocessing approaches, the focus is on how to be with clients—human to human—rather than simply applying skills. Preverbal trauma often communicates through projection, and without awareness of our own internal responses, we risk relying on skills alone instead of connecting in a shared therapeutic space.

Through experiential learning, participants gain practical tools they can immediately apply, deepening their ability to work with the embodied and relational dimensions of trauma that often exist beyond words. Each training integrates didactic teaching, live demonstrations, small-group practice, and case consultation, providing a comprehensive path to skill development and professional growth.

This training teaches the proprietary EMDR protocol that infuses Somatic Experiencing into the 8-Phases of standard EMDR. We will focus on renegotiating the nervous system, rather than reprocessing specific trauma memories, by identifying what part of the nervous system the client is in.
