About the event

Substance Use Interventions

Formal substance use interventions are often misguided, misunderstood, and traumatizing. This training will give an overview of addiction as a family disease and recovery as a family process. We will explore how to involve the family in an effective way that creates sustainable changes within households experiencing active addiction. We will take a look at the pendulum between enmeshment and emotional cutoff and identify effective ways for families to take residence in the “in between”.

Objectives for this month:

  1. Articulate the role of the family in the recovery process

  2. Identify ways to expand a support system

  3. Explain the role of anxiety stabilization in the intervention process
